We are very pleased to share a new Team ABC3 publication!
Meloja Satkunam worked on Study 5.1: Prevalence and health care utilization of severe obesity in children accessing primary health care in Ontario while completing her MPH at McMaster University under the supervision of Dr. Catherine Birken (University of Toronto).
Her work was recently published in the Canadian Journal of Public Health and examined definitions of severe obesity and evaluated associated risk factors among young children in Ontario.
Her cross-sectional study included children 17 to 24 months of age and used two Ontario data sources: TARGet Kids! (n = 3713) and BORN Ontario (n = 768). Results showed that more than 1.1% of Ontario children met the adapted WHO definition of severe obesity compared to 0.3% using the CDC definition in very early childhood.
Other Team ABC3 members on the publication included Laura Anderson, Sarah Carsely, Jonathon Maguire, Patricia Parkin, Ann Sprague, Geoff Ball and Catherine Birken.
Congrats, Meloja and team!
