Unfortunately, the vast majority of hospitals are under-equipped to accommodate the growing number of overweight patients. One reason is the lack of weight specific designs. In addition, many healthcare providers are apprehensive about working with bariatric patients because of lack of experience and training. This often leads bariatric patients to face indignities and stigma related issues that often hinder their progress to a healthier life.
One of Team ABC3’s very own, Dr. Mary Forhan, addresses these challenges in an article by Alberta Innovates Health Solutions. This article highlights the powerful experiences of two bariatric patients and has lead to a CBC Radio Active interview – Improving Care for Patients with Obesity in the Hospital. Keep it up, Mary!
